Thing 30 - Final Thoughts on Learning 2.0

Well after several long months we have finally reached the end. It has been a long learning experience but a good one. It was filled with ups and downs as we all come together to help each other get through the weekly assignments. I had a few assignments that took a little longer then it really should have but that is how we learn through trial and error.

I was a little bit concerned at first about how this training exercise was going to unfold but once I got in there and saw what needed to be done it became much less intimidating. I would try to do another course like this again if it were offered. I think a few ways that we could improve on this course is to make the exercises shorter. I thought that it was way too long of a program and at times I felt like it took too much of my time. At times it became overwhelming with trying to balance Learning 2.0 and my other job responsibilities. It became a juggling act at trying to keep up with all of my responsibilities. I thought that the spreadsheet was a great idea for posting your responses but it was difficult to do so when only one person could be in the spreadsheet at a time. I thought that this might be a place to improve upon for next time. All in all it was a great program. I learned a lot and enjoyed playing around with some applications where time was available.

Thing 29 - Learning 2.0 Experience

Ah.... the light at the end of the tunnel. Finally we are down to just seconds away from the end. I enjoyed some of the exercises while some of the exercises took a lot longer than they really should have. I enjoyed learning about Flickr and some of its great features. It was pretty cool manipulating pictures into different things. I really enjoyed being creative. I would like to go back to some of the sites that we played with and explore some more. I am considering using some of the sites for my job to assist customers in a much faster manner.

For the most part I thought it was a pretty good experience. I thought that it was a little too long. It was difficult to get ahead of the game because you just didn't know what the assignment was. I tried to stay on top of the game so I didn't fall behind. All in all I would do it again.

Thing 28 - Rollyo

For Thing 28 I chose option 1 and created an account in Rollyo because it sounded like a great tool for learning about other interesting websites. It was pretty easy to create my account with rollyo. It was really simple to create a searchroll and add in some of my favorite website addresses. I can definately see potential for the use of a rollyo in our field. What a great way to share with others in our field some great websites. Here is my website address for my rollyo.

Thing 27 - LibraryThing

I was not familiar with the site LibraryThing. I was pleasantly surprised. It was really easy to use and kind of fun. I found it to be very easy to find some of my favorite books. It was ridiculously easy to add books to my bookshelves. I would like to explore and play with it more sometime when I have more time to play. Here is my catalog.

ENJOY!

Thing 26 - Online Image Generator

I had a lot of fun exploring the image generators. I found one on the generator blog that allowed me to get a Chinese name from my name. It was pretty interesting to see what it came up with. Check it out!

Thing 25 - Libraries & Podcasting

I explored a couple of different podcasting sites from the discovery resources section and I found some of them to be pretty interesting. It looks like podcasting is a great way to keep its community informed about events and activities that are going on.

I liked the idea of using podcasting for storytimes for kids. They can just listen to the story as it is being told to them. What a great idea for kids and parents. I also like the idea of using podcasting to inform our customers of upcoming events/programs and even giving them up-to-date information on buildings as they are being renovated. It can give them an idea as to how their neighborhood library building is coming along with its improvements. Podcasting is also a great way to introduce new services coming to our library system. We are all about changing to meet the needs of our customers through our service and our service points.

Thing 24 - Podcasts

I did some exploring on podcast and after attempting several different searches on different library topics I finally found one. This assignment was much more difficult that it should have been especially since our current Internet settings did not allow us to access the information from a staff computer. I found it to be very difficult to find something. I found podcast to be difficult to find material that could be useful for a library professional. I did find a podcast from the SirsiDynix Institute. It did have some pretty interesting podcasts on it. I think that this could be a great site for professional librarians to follow.
